Welcome
Rathcroghan Visitor Centre hosts its annual Queen Medb Winter Conference in the surrounds of the Ancient Royal Complex of Cruachan, in order to create a forum for interested communities and individuals to access, discuss and engage with the unique environment that nature and our predecessors have left us with.
We invite you to join us here at Cruachan Aí, Connacht's Royal Capital and the home of the Warrior Queen Medb herself, where this year our theme will be to explore the culture and spirituality of ancient Ireland and it's many connections to the wider European World. Our Conference promotes a unique blend of history, folklore and wellness in an area where people have both thrived and survived over thousands of years. Formerly titled as our 'Goddess Conference', we have changed the name as we feel that Medb embodies all the aspects that we are covering, from the royal and sacred, to the mythological and divine. She seems to cross all borders with her universal appeal. To see a detailed programme of events or to register please click below - |
About Us
The vicinity surrounding the medieval village of Tulsk here is home to the Royal Site of Rathcroghan or Cruachan and consists of 240 plus archaeological sites, 60 of which are protected National Monuments and which vary from Stone Age Tombs, Royal Burial Mounds, Great Raths or Ringforts, Ceremonial Inauguration Sites, Massive Linear Earthworks and the mysterious Oweynagat - the Cave of the Cats, Ireland’s ancient entrance to the Otherworld and the traditional home of Halloween!
Our exhibition and tours let you tread across this ancient landscape in the footsteps of the great Iron Age Warrior Queen Medb, who ruled all of Connacht from her home here in Rathcroghan, the origin point for our National Epic ‘an Táin Bó Cuailnge’ - the Cattle Raid of Cooley, which features a whole host of legendary heroes including Medb herself, the mighty Battle Goddess Morrigan, the Connacht Champion Fraech and the boy hero Cúchulainn, whose names and deeds are inextricably linked to the landscape that surrounds us here. Witness the site where the ferocious white horned bull Finnbennach, battled the legendary Donn Cuailnge, the brown bull of Cooley.
